This building is a stunning looking structure from so many different angles. It is influenced by ancient Islamic architecture, but with a uniquely modern design using geometric patterns.
It was designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, an architect with many famous buildings to his name, such as the glass-steel pyramid at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. I.M.Pei was called out of retirement at the age of 91 for this project. He travelled throughout the muslim world for 6 months to learn about muslim architecture to get inspiration for his design of this building. The museum was opened to the general public in late 2008.
