These adorable little parrots are native to Australia and found throughout the drier parts of Australia, where they have survived harsh conditions for more than 5 million of years. They are nomadic, travelling in flocks, and are able to breed while on the move, which have attributed to their success surviving the very harsh inland conditions.
Wild Budgerigars are noticeable smaller than those bred and held in captivity. In captivity they have also been bred in many more colours, where as the wild budgerigar only show in one colour combination.
On our road trip to the red centre of Australia, which is where I capture this little guy we would often experience big flocks of them zooming back and forth across the road in front of us, a very spectacular sight.
