Ghost mushrooms are part of a rare group of organisms that produce their own light. The scientific name for this particular species is “Omphalotus nidiformis” and they are native to Australia. They have bioluminescent properties, which makes them emit a soft green glow at night. They grow on decaying plant material such as stumps, dead or near dead trees and are most commonly found during autumn, when the weather becomes cooler & more wet.
